This project is great because it takes very little time and looks great gracing anyone's counter top! We have put together a step-by-step tutorial to help you out.
On a side note this trivet is a great addition to a wine themed gift basket. Some items for this gift basket: a bottle of wine, some chocolate, wine cork trivet, some wine charms, small cheese board, and a cork screw. It makes a great housewarming gift--Don't forget to add a bow!
Getting Started
Put down newspaper to keep your work surface clean. Get all your supplies together and layout your corks in pairs you like best together. When I picked mine I tried to get all different brands. I used a total of 18 corks, but you can always add more to create a bigger trivet.
Step 1:
Select a pair of corks from your layout. Put hot glue along the edge of one cork and combine it with the other cork. Repeat this step until all pairs are hot glued together. After completing this project, I recommend using a thin line of hot glue when you are gluing the cork pairs together. This way you will have less excess visible from the top of your trivet.
Step 2:
Once you have all the pairs glued together start connecting them into sections. Hot glue the top of a pair corks and connect them to the side of another pair of corks. Repeat this step until you have 3 sections.
Step 3:
Hot glue your 3 sections together--make sure you allow the glue time to set in between connecting the sections! After the sections are connected flip the trivet over and fill in connection points with hot glue for added strength.
Step 4:
Wine cork trivet complete. You are now ready to put your project to use!
Enjoy!
